Strategy gets you on the playing field, but execution pays the bills.
Gordon Eubanks
Consider Facebook, recently valued at over £50 Billion. The social networking platform is certainly based on a simple and sound idea. Provide a facility to allow people to connect with and share information with friends, and leverage the value of the audience through advertising. But Facebook wasn't the first, nor is it currently the only business to operate this model.
So why is it so successful? The answer is in the execution of the concept. Put simply, Facebook does what it does better than anyone else.
A good idea, business plan, vision or strategy, can lead to nothing without the practical skills required to turn a concept into a commercially viable reality.

It's nothing new of course. Go back in time to the invention of the light bulb. Often attributed to Thomas Edison, the 'idea' for the incandescent light bulb was not in fact Edison's at all. What Edison did was to take other peoples pioneering inventions and ideas, and develop them into a product that was practical and suitable for mass production.
These are just a few of many examples of how a good idea, business plan, vision or strategy, can often lead to nothing without the practical skills required to turn a concept into a commercially viable reality.
Having a good idea is one thing. Bringing that idea to market successfully is something else altogether.
